Better Brains from Games

Client: Scientific American
Art Direction: Michael Mrak

For it's July 2016 issue, Scientific American commissioned me to illustrate it's cover story about how video games can enhance mental skills. I immediately thought back to those hours of playing Ms. Pac-Man and saw a direct correlation between those ghost-infested corridors of power pellets and the many interconnected lobes of the brain.
They loved the brain illustration so much that we decided to use it on the interior spread for the cover story, this time illustrating some of the skills (driving, performing surgery, rotating objects in space) that playing video games can improve.
